How to become a new AYSO 43 Referee
All new referees must go through the following four steps in order to referee matches in our region. (If you are a returning AYSO referee from our region or other region, or if you are a USSF trained referee please see our returning referees page)
Step 1: If you are not yet trained, register for the referee training class(es) you plan to attend.
- U7-U8: You need to take the U8 Official class to referee these games.
- U10-U12: You need to take the U8 Official class PLUS the Upgrade-to-Regional class.
- Review the schedule of referee training classes on the referee training calendar, then RSVP using the Parent->Volunteer section in your Web Youth Soccer page. (Please RSVP under YOUR name. If you are a youth volunteer or other non-parent volunteer, contact the Region 43 Referee Administratorto obtain a Web Youth Soccer login.)
- The training calendar also has links to the training classes offered by other AYSO regions in our area, such as Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, and Cupertino. Referees may take the training class in any AYSO region.
- Note that referees will receive their referee equipment from their home region.
Step 2: Register as a volunteer in the National AYSO database through eAYSO.
- Please visit the Volunteer Registration portion of our Volunteer Registration page to register as a volunteer for this season.
- Bring 2 copies of your completed eAYSO volunteer form along with a driver’s license or passport to your next training session. Referees will not receive their badge at the end of the training class without the signed volunteer forms.
Step 3: Complete the online Safe Haven class (20-30 minutes).
- Please visit the Safe Haven portion of our Volunteer Registration page to take Safe Haven training. (Not required for Youth referees under 18 yrs old.)
- Note that you cannot take the online Safe Haven training until your new eAYSO id is activated, which usually happens after your training session since you first need to bring your volunteer forms and have your ID checked!
Step 4: Attend your classes.
- Attend the class you signed up for. A record of your attendance will be entered into the AYSO National database (eAYSO) and you will be issued a referee badge upon completing the class. You will also be issued a uniform if you do not already have one.
