Generally, we hang nets for the season. So semi-permanent attachment along the goal posts, crossbar, side bars and back bar (if available) should be done. Velcro does not weather well and gets taken by the kids. Tape does not weather well, builds up over time, and rips easily when stress is placed on the net. Good nylon string or plastic cable ties are better but cable ties must be installed carefully so the locking part does not have sharp edges or is exposed on the goal post where a player is likely to hit against it. String has to be used when the net is smaller than the side supports going backward and so is used to streach the net into place.
Nets should be hung from the inside and stretched, possibly around, the side bars and back, ground bar (if it exists). Attachment needs to occur every 1 to 1.5 feet along the goal bar, crossbar, and ground level bars. Net should be stretched tightly and not able to become loose along the edges of the goal and thus allow a ball through. Plastic tent stakes or short "goal stakes" can be used to attach the net along the back edge longways (8 yard) if no back crossbar exists. String may then have to be used to pull the net up in the center out of the way of the keeper.
Pole nets at Covington and Santa Rita upper have to be unstaked at the end of use so grass can be cut inside the area covered by the net. Otherwise, we run the risk of the mower running over the net and we have to weed wack the goal area. All nets will get removed at the end of the season and stored for next year, if still usable.
Nets are generally purchased from the goal manufacturer or the AYSO Store, if the right size is available.
TBD
Generally made of 1" plastic PVC pipe. Either buy in two pieces or cut in half and add a coupler to the center (coupler on bottom is convention). Must always be at least 5' long out of the ground. Metal ground stake in the bottom, colored nylon flag on the top.
To get a sense of what field lining is about, see http://www.laysl.org/s-fldlin.html , or http://www.arkansassoccer.org/fieldmaps/how_to_layout_a_soccer_field.htm .
Note, we do not use gasoline -- only paint. We must repaint each week after the grass is cut. Luckily, once the fields are setup the first time, it is easy to simply go over the same lines that are faint after rain and grass cutting. Lining can be done Friday night (just after school and before practices is best; or just before sundown but you may have to work around a practicing team) or Saturday morning at 7:30AM (just after sun up but well before the 8:30 AM game start). It should take less than 1/2 hour per field once you get the hang of it.
Combination for the field box can be obtained from the board.
The ocean-going shipping container(s) was purchased by Steve Brocksen for AYSO Region 43 (and Little League) in the 1990's. The AYSO one does not close properly. They have been located at various locations at the Egan site since then.
We have outfitted our container with 6 restaurant style, rolling carts to hold boxes of uniforms, nets, and other equipment. Using carts allows us to get the 6', 7' and 8' 3-piece fold a goal side brackets in and out of the back of the shed.
