Coaching the Coach program:

We will have an enhanced COACHING THE COACH program this year. Detail will be announced soon.

Note: For safety, insurance, and liability reasons, ALL coaches and assistant coaches are required to
(1) submit a signed, accepted volunteer form,
(2) be Safe Haven Certified, and
(3) currently trained as a coach.
The complete coaching team must verify all these items BEFORE you can receive your team uniforms and balls. Although always a requirement, we have a procedure in place which can now allow us to enforce this. Each item is explained next. This is for your protection as well as the players on your team.

(1) Signed, Accepted Volunteer Form

The volunteer form is required every year and must now be filled out online using the National AYSO system http://eayso.org/. All fields must be filled before the form can be completed in the National system; including references, drivers license number, social security number and birthday. There is a tutorial available to help you. Our local Web Youth Soccer (WYS) system volunteer form or hand filled out forms are no longer acceptable.

Once completed online, print and bring a signed copy to the coaches meeting or mail it to the PO Box if later. Also, email our RCA, DC, and/or CVPA so they can verify your completed form online and activate you as a volunteer. You are not assigned a valid, working AYSO ID until we activate your completed volunteer form and AYSO National performs an automated verification check of the information. We do not "accept" the form until we have verified the information by performing random spot checks and comprehensive checks against available databases and records.

(2) Safe Haven Certification (Child and Volunteer Protection) is now online.
A course that is required only once for all Coaches and Referees.

To check if there is a record of you taking Safe Haven, login to our WYS system and check under the Parent "Certifications" screen to see if it lists Safe Haven. If not there, contact the RCA, DC, or CVPA and ask them to see if the Safe Haven Certification is in the National eAYSO.org database (make sure to give them enough information to find your record). Note: you must have completed (1) above first to become registered and active before they can hope to find you on the National database.

To take the Safe Haven for Coaches, you need your AYSO ID and to have been an active volunteer for 7 days. If you cannot see your AYSO ID under the WYS system Parent "Personal Info" screen after logging in, then email the the RCA, DC, or CVPA and ask them to retrieve your AYSO ID from the National database. Note: you must have completed (1) above first to become registered and active before they can find you on the National database.

It takes National up to 7 days to complete a background check before they will activate your registration and allow you access to the training site and give us access to your record.

A coach training course is not the same as coach Safe Haven and is not a replacement for Safe Haven. Both are needed and independent of each other.

If you have any doubt, simply spend the 30 minutes to take the online Safe Haven course to be sure. It can only help to get the refresher of information and be assured your record is complete. Due to their setup, the online course (if completed) is guaranteed to be associated with your volunteer record in the National database.

(3) Current Coach Training

All coaches must have taken coach training this season or in the past. If in the past, you then need a refresher each year to stay current. The coach meeting serves as your refresher. But we encourage you to take training every other year at minimum as your kids move up in an age division. We offer coach courses for each division from U6 on up through U19. See the clinics list below. You are always welcome at any coach training course you have the pre-requisates for. But you need the coach meeting refresher, at minimum, each year. If you wonder why current coach training is important, then you must not remember Safe Haven. See (1) above. Coaches with USSF or NSCAA certificates can cross certify but still need the refresher each year there after.

We cannot provide you team uniforms or balls until the whole coaching team completes all three items above -- Safe Haven Certified, currently trained, and submit a signed volunteer form that was generated using the National online system eayso.org.

Contact the Regional Coach Administrator, your Coach Coordinator, or your Division Coordinator for more information. See the Board of Parent list for these contacts (login to get the email address).

Coaching Clinics
in and near Los Altos Region 43 (Area A)

For all soccer coach clinics (other than Safe Haven), come prepared to play and bring a ball, note-taking equipment, sunscreen and water. Lunch is included in the clinics.

Note: The U6 and U8 courses are 2 hours each. We strongly recommend that you take the online class at eAYSO and then come to the field training only. The U10 course is 4 hours, instead you can take a U10 online class and then come to the field training session (2 hours only). Often, all three are taught together as a single course and merged curriculum. U12 is all day. Intermediate over two days, the first day covers the U12 material.
